"Winter" 6x6

  • Recently I spent the day at the The Getty Center in Los Angeles. If you are ever in LA this site is not to be missed. The museum, gardens and research institute are perched on a ridge over looking the LA Basin and the Pacific Ocean. It is a spectacular place to spend the day. I was taken with this sculpture and thought it would make an interesting painting.

“Winter” is a painting of a portion of the marble sculpture, “Bust of Winter”, created by the German artist Paul Heerman (1673-1732). This sculpture is part of the permanent collection at the Getty Center.

It was about 95 degrees here today, but looking at that glowering, intense face threatens a snowy blizzard. Beautifully painted.
